Millet Baths

The Millet Baths are a historic public hammam in Muratpaşa District of Antalya Province, in the central area of Antalya — the ancient Attaleia, founded in the 2nd century BCE by Attalos II of Pergamon — on Turkey's spectacular Mediterranean Turquoise Coast, one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Antalya grew under Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman rule into a major Mediterranean port city, and its hammams served the diverse population of an urban centre defined by its role as the gateway between the fertile Anatolian interior and the Mediterranean sea trade routes. The Millet Baths provided the residents of central Antalya — a densely populated district where Ottoman monuments, Roman city gates, and Byzantine churches survive within the modern city — with the communal bathing ritual essential to Ottoman civic life in one of the empire's most important Mediterranean ports.
