Ortakçı Kaplıcası

The Ortakçı Kaplıcası (Ortakçı Thermal Baths) are a sulphurous thermal spring facility in Buharkent District of Aydın Province in western Turkey, in the geothermally active Büyük Menderes valley where volcanic activity from the Maeander rift zone brings naturally heated mineral water to the surface across a broad area. Buharkent — whose name means Steam City, reflecting the area's extraordinary concentration of geothermal resources — is one of Turkey's most important geothermal zones, supplying hot mineral water for both therapeutic bathing and electricity generation. The Ortakçı Kaplıcası's sulphurous waters have been used by local communities for therapeutic bathing — particularly for skin conditions, rheumatism, and respiratory ailments — in a tradition of geothermal bathing that is as deeply embedded in the Maeander valley as the ancient thermae that preceded the Ottoman bathing culture in this region.
