Altuntaş Hammam

The Altuntaş Hammam is a historic Ottoman bathhouse in Amasya District of Amasya Province in northern Anatolia, in one of Turkey's most visually extraordinary cities where Ottoman timber-frame mansions mirror in the Yeşilırmak River beneath Pontic royal rock tombs hewn from the cliff face above and the silhouette of a medieval citadel on the ridge. Amasya was an important Ottoman provincial capital and educational centre — where Suleiman the Magnificent served his early administrative training as şehzade — and its hammams formed part of a sophisticated urban ensemble reflecting a city accustomed to both imperial attention and scholarly culture.
