The Menzilhane Baths are an Ottoman hammam in Gebze District, Kocaeli Province in northwestern Turkey, positioned along one of the most important roads of the Ottoman Empire connecting Istanbul to Anatolia and beyond. Menzilhane refers to a post station or relay point along the Ottoman imperial road network, where couriers, officials, and travelers could rest, change horses, and refresh themselves, and the hammam formed an essential part of such a transit facility. Gebze occupies a historically significant position at the junction of the Anatolian road system east of Istanbul, and its menzilhane baths served the continuous flow of imperial traffic through this vital corridor.
