Emser Therme

Emser Therme is the modern thermal spa facility in Bad Ems, a historic spa town on the Lahn River in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, where the famous Emser Quelle — a sodium, chloride, bicarbonate, and calcium-rich mineral spring — has been celebrated since Roman times within a long thermal tradition. Bad Ems was one of nineteenth-century Europe's most fashionable spa resorts, visited by luminaries including the Prussian kings, Empress Augusta, and the composer Richard Wagner, and the dramatic event known as the Ems Dispatch — which precipitated the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 — took place in the town. Today the Emser Therme continues the tradition of the Ems mineral spring in a modern wellness complex, offering bathing in the historically renowned sodium-chloride-bicarbonate waters that have been cherished since at least the seventeenth century within a long thermal tradition.
