Soufriere Sulphur Springs

Soufrière Hot Springs in Dominica are among the most spectacular geothermal phenomena in the Caribbean, located in the volcanic Sulphur Springs area of this island known as the 'Nature Isle of the Caribbean' for its extraordinary concentration of geothermal activity, where sulphurous water boils from the earth at temperatures approaching 100°C in a vivid landscape of coloured fumaroles, mud pools, and volcanic vents. Dominica's extraordinary volcanism — it has nine active volcanoes — makes it the most geologically active island in the Eastern Caribbean, and the Soufrière area with its boiling lake (the second largest in the world), fumarolic activity, and hot springs collectively form one of the Caribbean's most dramatic natural landscapes. The surrounding pristine tropical rainforest, coral reefs, and Kalinago indigenous heritage give Dominica an ecological and cultural richness unmatched in the region.
