Wellenstein in southern Luxembourg, near the Moselle wine town of Remich, is a small thermal spring site drawing on the geological resources of the Luxembourg Sandstone and Muschelkalk formations to produce mineralised spring water in the quiet viticultural landscape of the Luxembourg Moselle valley. Luxembourg's modest geothermal heritage is embedded in the broader spa tradition of the Greater Region — the Luxembourg-Lorraine-Saar-Wallonia transborder zone — where the famous springs of Mondorf-les-Bains have served as the country's principal thermal resort since Roman times.
