Scoresby Sund Thermal Springs in the Scoresby Sund fjord system of eastern Greenland are bicarbonate springs in the landscape surrounding the world's largest fjord complex — Scoresby Sund's branching network of fjords extends 350 kilometres inland, flanked by ice-capped mountain ranges and one of the richest wildlife areas in the Arctic. The springs reflect the geothermal activity associated with the ancient geological structures of eastern Greenland's basement rocks, exposed by glacial erosion to create the dramatic fjord scenery. Ittoqqortoormiit, the remote Inuit settlement at the fjord entrance, is one of the world's most isolated inhabited communities, and the thermal springs of the Scoresby Sund system are discovered only by expedition cruise passengers and a small number of dedicated wilderness travellers reaching the eastern Greenland coast.
