Opened in 1994 in Escaldes-Engordany, Caldea grew out of a 1987 municipal project to harness the hot springs rising from a fault in Andorra's bedrock. The town's own name traces back to the old Catalan word 'escaldes' — scalding waters — a legacy dating to the Middle Ages. Its 80-metre glass tower, designed by architect Jean-Michel Ruols, draws inspiration from the Romanesque Meritxell basilica and echoes the profile of the surrounding Andorran mountains.
Insider tip — Caldea's glass tower is the landmark of Andorra la Vella, and its sprawling indoor-outdoor thermal lagoon at around 32–34 °C is the Pyrenees' largest thermoludic experience — complemented by the adults-only Inúu space for a quieter session. It's the perfect après-ski ritual; just book your slot in advance during peak season.
