Terme Bënjë — Permet

Terme Benje is a natural thermal spring complex in the Benje gorge of the Lengarica river near Permet in southern Albania, where steaming bicarbonated water cascades into natural pools carved from the limestone canyon floor beneath a series of Ottoman stone arch bridges of exceptional beauty, creating a thermal bathing experience of extraordinary wild elegance. The Lengarica canyon, cut into the Nemercke mountains above the Vjosa valley, is lined with seventeenth and eighteenth-century bridges built by Albanian master masons in the Ottoman tradition of corbelled stone arching, their reflections shivering in the turquoise river below the hot spring pools. Permet itself is celebrated for its rose liqueur, its fig raki, and its tradition of iso-polyphonic singing, the Albanian vocal tradition inscribed by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, making the Permet valley one of Albania's most rewarding concentrations of natural beauty, archaeological legacy, and living folk culture.
