Sources de Spontin

Spontin is a village in the Yvoir municipality of the Namur province of Wallonia, where a naturally carbonated bicarbonate spring — the Spontin mineral water source, commercially bottled since 1892 and distributed across Belgium — rises beside one of the finest medieval water castles in Wallonia. The bicarbonate-carbonated spring waters filter through the Devonian limestone and sandstone of the Condroz plateau, the ancient geological formation whose karst system underlies much of southern Belgium and northern Luxembourg, producing a naturally sparkling and mineral-balanced water. The Chateau de Spontin, a preserved 13th-century fortified castle with its original moat still filled with spring water, overlooks the Spontin source in a feudal landscape of intact medieval fortifications that has been continuously inhabited since the 12th century — making the spring visit simultaneously a geological and medieval heritage experience in the Ardennais countryside of Belgian Wallonia.
