Tamina Therme is the flagship thermal bathing facility of Bad Ragaz in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, drawing on the legendary Tamina Gorge spring — one of Europe's most celebrated healing waters — whose sulphurous thermal water at 36.5°C emerges from a dramatic narrow gorge in the Taminaschlucht and has been piped to the resort for therapeutic bathing since the 13th century when Benedictine monks first lowered patients into the gorge in baskets. The spring, whose waters are at the precise temperature of the human body, was considered miraculous in the Middle Ages and continues to be one of Switzerland's most medically prescribed thermal waters. The grand thermal spa complex, set against the alpine backdrop of the Flumserberge and the Rhine valley, represents one of Switzerland's most distinguished and historically significant thermal healing traditions.

Insider tip — Tamina Therme in Bad Ragaz is fed by the famous Tamina Gorge, whose sulfurous waters at 36.5°C have been channeled since the 13th century by monks from Pfäfers Monastery. The panoramic indoor and outdoor pools offer views across the surrounding Rhaetian Alps. Book treatments well in advance in peak season, and take the thermal circuit early in the morning for a more intimate atmosphere before tour groups arrive.
