Termas El Corazon rises in the Andean foothills west of Santiago in the precordillera of Alhué, a remote canyon landscape of volcanic and metamorphic rock where the Andes begin their descent toward the central Chilean valley in a series of deeply cut quebradas (ravines) whose hot springs, clear streams, and native sclerophyllous forest create an oasis of natural beauty accessible from the capital but requiring the commitment of a genuine mountain journey to reach. The Alhué area preserves one of the last substantial stands of native Chilean sclerophyllous forest in the Metropolitana Region, a Mediterranean-type woodland of boldo, litre, and quillay trees that once covered the entire central Chilean foothills before agricultural clearance reduced it to scattered remnants, making the precordillera valleys where these springs emerge among the most biodiverse and ecologically significant landscapes within the Santiago metropolitan territory. The bicarbonate thermal waters, heated by the geothermal energy associated with the Andes' subduction-zone volcanism, provide mineral bathing in a remote canyon setting that rewards the effort of reaching it with silence, native forest, mountain air, and the simple pleasure of warm volcanic water rising from the roots of the Andes.

Insider tip — The bicarbonate water of Termas El Corazon is ideal for aiding digestion and softening the skin.
