Just 14 km from San Felipe, in the Aconcagua Valley, Termas de Jahuel owes its international renown to Charles Darwin, who mentioned the site during his visit in 1834. In 1875, the Guilisasti family transformed this rural estate into a thermal resort inspired by European spas; later acquired by the British firm Weir Scott, the property gained Oregon-pine pavilions with distinctly English architecture, becoming by the late 19th century an elegant spa hotel favored by an international clientele.
The historic hotel, built in 1912, stood for nearly a century before reopening in 2005 following five years of full restoration. It has hosted many of Chile's 20th-century presidents, a prestige that endures today in a setting blending heritage with modern comfort, fed by naturally occurring sulfated waters of underground origin.
