Termas de Polloquere

Termas de Polloquere in Chile's Arica y Parinacota region are sulfated and siliceous geothermal springs located within the Salar de Surire Natural Monument at approximately 4,300 metres altitude, where the springs feed a series of bathing pools amid one of the world's most spectacular high-altitude wetland landscapes. The Salar de Surire — a massive salt flat surrounded by volcanic peaks and inhabited by three species of flamingo — is one of Chile's most remote and extraordinary natural monuments, and Polloquere's thermal pools offer a unique warm-water refuge in an otherwise extreme cold and windswept altiplano environment. The springs have been used by Aymara herders for generations and remain accessible only via long off-road journeys through the northern altiplano.
