Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) in the Karlovy Vary Region of western Bohemia, Czech Republic, is one of the great European spa cities, whose bicarbonate, magnesium, and ferruginous springs were developed into one of the nineteenth century's most fashionable international destinations, attracting Goethe, Chopin, Wagner, Mark Twain, and numerous European monarchs.
