Bad Langensalza is a town in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia and is recognised by the State as a spa town, bearing the designation "sulphur and saline thermal bath". It is the second-largest town in the district after Mühlhausen and serves as the urban centre for its south-eastern part as well as for several municipalities of the Gotha district to the north.
Insider tip — Bad Langensalza is a compact Baroque spa town in Thuringia whose saline springs were granted Kur status in the 18th century and remain the town's defining feature. The sodium-chloride pools at 39°C are complemented by elaborate rose gardens — the town cultivates more than 400 varieties — making it uniquely photogenic in June. The Kurpark's 19th-century saline graduation tower still stands and perfumes the air with mineral mist on humid afternoons.
