Chachimbiro Hot Springs

Chachimbiro Hot Springs in the Parroquia de Tumbabiro, Imbabura Province, Ecuador, are ferruginous mineral springs emerging from the flanks of the extinct Chachimbiro volcanic complex in one of the most thermally active zones of the Ecuadorian Andes. The iron-rich reddish waters have been used by the Urcuqui region's communities for generations, and a contemporary thermal resort now channels the springs into multiple pools at different temperatures within a garden setting overlooking the Imbabura volcanic landscape. Chachimbiro's position in the Inter-Andean Valley of northern Ecuador, surrounded by the volcanic peaks of Cotacachi, Imbabura, and Chachimbiro, places it within one of the most geothermally and geologically dramatic zones of the Andean volcanic arc.
