Los Baños de Mula

Los Baños de Mula is an ancient thermal spring site in Murcia, southeastern Spain, located in the Mula River valley in the scenic Pre-Betic mountains interior of the Region of Murcia. The chloride-rich thermal waters emerging from the fractured limestone and dolomite geology of the Murcian interior have been used since Roman times — traces of Roman bathing infrastructure have been found at the site — and the springs remain in use today as a modest but historically resonant thermal destination. The surrounding landscape of rugged Murcian badlands, ancient castles, and the terraced orange and lemon groves of the Mula valley provides a setting of distinctly Southeastern Spanish character, quite different from the Mediterranean coastal environments that dominate the region's tourism offer. Los Baños de Mula represents the deep historical continuity of the thermal bathing tradition in the Iberian Peninsula, where Roman, Moorish, and Spanish spa cultures have each left their mark on this ancient spring site.
