About twelve kilometres from Pucón, deep in Chile's Araucanía region, the Parque Termal Botánico was built on the site of the former Liucura hot springs, which operated for more than forty years. Officially opened on February 7, 2025 after two years of construction, the project led by father and son Ignacio and Federico Martínez breaks from the classic vision of a thermal resort by placing education and conservation at its centre.

The first of its kind in Chile and the seventh in South America, the park pairs certified thermal waters with a botanical garden home to more than 5,000 species of local flora, some of them endangered. Water-treatment wetlands designed by BioAntu recycle 100% of wastewater for irrigation, with the ambition of reaching full energy self-sufficiency by 2026.

Insider tip — Parque Termal Botánico lies in the volcanic Araucanía Region of southern Chile, where the active volcanoes of the Andes — including Villarrica and Llaima — drive intense geothermal activity. Sulfurous waters emerge at around 42°C and the park setting among native coihue and araucaria forests makes bathing an immersive nature experience. The botanic garden aspect highlights Chile's unique endemic flora of the temperate Valdivian rainforest.
