Tucked 30 km from Pucón in Chile's Araucanía region, Laguna Menetúe (also known as Laguna Ancapulli) takes its name from a Mapudungún word meaning 'place of baths' — the Mapuche people were the first to frequent this site, long before it became a modern thermal park. The estate spans 40 hectares of native forest, dotted with flowers and indigenous trees, where local flora and fauna create an almost dreamlike setting.

The waters rise from underground springs warmed by the region's magmatic layers, feeding several pools at varying temperatures: three covered pools and two outdoor basins framed by waterfalls. The complex also offers mud baths, private thermal tubs, and — a rarity in southern Chile — the area's first-ever thermal vineyard, a curiosity worth the detour on its own.

Insider tip — Parque Termal Menetue occupies a private forested estate near Curarrehue in the Araucania Region, where the Mapuche people have long revered the springs as healing waters. The outdoor pools are surrounded by ancient araucaria pines, known locally as monkey-puzzle trees, whose silhouettes against volcanic peaks create an iconic Andean scene. Bicarbonate waters at 38°C are gentle enough for children, making this a popular family retreat during Chilean summer. The park's interpretation centre explains both the geology of the Andean volcanic arc and the indigenous cultural significance of the waters.
