Some thirty kilometres from Pucón, at kilometre 27 of the international road toward Curarrehue, Termas Trancura draws its water from volcanic aquifers more than 200 metres deep — evidence, according to the operator, of a fully natural source. The site's story began in the late 1980s, when Pucón was still an under-the-radar destination: its founders first tested rafting trips down the Trancura River before building a full thermal complex.

Since then, it has grown into one of the most visited thermal sites in southern Chile, built around outdoor tourism that aims to respect the surrounding landscape. Set on the riverbank in the Catripulli sector, the complex still carries the mark of that early outdoor-adventure spirit that preceded the pools themselves.

Insider tip — Termas Trancura lie on the Trancura River in the Lake District of Chile, flanked by ancient araucaria monkey-puzzle forests and within sight of the active Villarrica volcano whose cone is often dusted with snow and ash. The bicarbonate thermal pools are fed by geothermal activity associated with the Southern Andes volcanic zone and the river itself offers world-class whitewater rafting immediately downstream. Sunset from the thermal pools, with Villarrica glowing red against the Andean sky, is a defining Patagonian moment.
