Insider tip — Termales de Alicante is situated in the Santa Ana region of western El Salvador, a landscape shaped by the volcanic chain that includes Santa Ana Volcano (Ilamatepec), the highest peak in the country at 2,381 metres. The volcanic origin of the springs delivers sulfurous water at elevated temperature, characteristic of the Central American volcanic arc. The cloud forest on the upper volcano slopes provides a green backdrop and supports abundant bird life including quetzals. El Salvador's thermal springs remain little-visited by international tourists, offering an unusually uncrowded experience on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
