The story of Santa Coloma de Farners' waters is said to trace back to the First Carlist War, when a wounded soldier found lying in the spring reportedly survived far longer than expected — a founding episode that helped popularise the local baths. Official recognition followed in 1871, when Girona's Provincial Health Board validated the public utility of these sulphurous waters after analysis by Barcelona physician Joaquim Jordà.
The first spa building dates to 1860, though the structure standing today stems from a project launched in 1919 and reshaped several times through the twentieth century. Termes Orion keeps this warm sulphurous water flowing within a renovated hotel complex, now paired with the Magma thermal leisure centre that extends its bathing tradition in Catalonia's Selva region.
