Methana is a volcanic peninsula attached to the Argolid in the Peloponnese, where an active volcanic formation produces bicarbonate thermal springs that have been documented by Strabo and Pausanias as places of bathing since classical antiquity — making the Methana thermal tradition one of the oldest continuously documented in Europe.
