Tucked near the picturesque town of Molyvos on the northern coast of Lesvos, the Eftalou hot springs were developed into a proper bathhouse at the end of the 19th century, during the Ottoman occupation of the island, continuing a bathing tradition that locals had already kept alive for centuries, arriving on horseback or by donkey. The site still preserves the dome of its original 17th-century building, a visible link to that long history.
Today a modernised bathhouse stands alongside the traditional one, offering visitors a choice between private tubs and a communal bathing area, all facing the Aegean Sea. Eftalou is noted as one of the most distinctive springs on Lesvos, recognised for having the highest natural radioactivity level among the island's thermal waters, and is valued for its authentic atmosphere and views toward the strait separating the island from nearby Turkey.
