Fuentes Georginas (Hierbabuena)

Fuentes Georginas is a spectacular natural hot spring resort high on the slopes of Volcán Zunil in the Quetzaltenango highlands of Guatemala, where sulphate- and calcium-rich geothermal water at around 40°C cascades into a series of forest-enclosed pools at over 2,600 metres elevation, surrounded by cloud forest draped in bromeliads and orchids. The springs are accessed via a steep road climbing through a lush colonial landscape of traditional K'iche' Maya villages and coffee plantations on the slopes of one of Guatemala's most active volcanic systems. The combination of volcanic thermal water, extraordinary cloud forest biodiversity, K'iche' Maya cultural heritage, and the sweeping views across the Guatemalan Altiplano makes Fuentes Georginas one of Central America's most dramatic and scenically spectacular hot spring destinations.
