Sárvár is a town in western Hungary, in Vas County, the second largest settlement in the region and the seat of the Sárvár district. In terms of overnight stays, Sárvár is the 12th most visited town in Hungary. The town lies on the bank of the Rába River, near Kemenesháza. Its population of about 15,000 inhabitants is mainly Hungarian, but there are also Germans and Roma. The town is located about 24 km from Szombathely, the county capital, 55 km from Sopron, 42 km from Pápa and 60 km from Lake Balaton. In 2016, Sárvár was awarded the honorary title of "European Reformation City" by the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe.
