Lahinch Seawater Baths

Lahinch Seawater Baths is a tidal seawater bathing facility on the Atlantic coast of County Clare in the west of Ireland, where iodine-rich sea water from the open Atlantic is channelled into pools and baths beside one of Ireland's finest surfing beaches, combining the therapeutic tradition of cold Atlantic immersion with the dramatic coastal landscape that draws wave riders from across Europe to the long left-hand breaks of Lahinch Bay. The Cliffs of Moher, the most visited natural site in Ireland, rise fourteen kilometres to the north in a wall of black shale and sandstone reaching 214 metres above the churning green Atlantic, their population of nesting puffins, razorbills, and guillemots returning each spring to the same ledges their ancestors occupied for thousands of years in one of the most spectacular seabird colonies in northwest Europe. A morning of seawater bathing at Lahinch, followed by a walk along the cliff path to see the Atlantic from the perspective of a cormorant hanging in the updraught, constitutes one of the most invigorating wellness itineraries available on the wild edge of the European continent.
