Panamik Hot Springs

Panamik Hot Springs are located in Panamik village in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, the dramatic high-altitude valley north of the Khardung La pass — once claimed as the world's highest motorable road at 5,359 meters — that opens into a surprisingly lush sand-dune landscape where Bactrian (double-humped) camels still graze on the banks of the Shyok and Nubra Rivers in what was once a northern branch of the ancient Silk Road between India and Central Asia. The Nubra Valley's combination of high-altitude desert scenery, Tibetan Buddhist monasteries clinging to cliff faces, verdant riverside oases of wild roses and sea buckthorn, and the extraordinary sight of camels on sand dunes beneath Himalayan glaciers creates one of India's most surreal and memorable landscape experiences. The hot springs at Panamik, one of the most celebrated geothermal sites in Ladakh, deliver bicarbonate mineral water at temperatures of approximately 70°C, providing mineral bathing at an altitude of 3,200 meters in the heart of one of the most dramatically beautiful high mountain valleys in the entire Himalayan system.
