Sari Su Hot Spring is a natural bicarbonate-rich geothermal site in the Ardabil province of northwestern Iran, in the ancient volcanic landscape of the Sabalan massif — one of the highest dormant volcanoes in the Middle East — whose geothermal system produces numerous hot springs throughout the region around Sarein. The Ardabil province is the most thermally active region in Iran, and the area's volcanic geology, combined with the proximity of the Ardabil pilgrimage centre with its magnificent UNESCO-listed Sheikh Safi al-Din shrine, creates a remarkable combination of natural and sacred heritage. The Sabalan massif's summer alpine meadows, winter skiing, and the region's distinctive Azerbaijani culture give northwestern Iran a particularly vibrant character.
