Hveravellir is a remote geothermal oasis in Iceland's desolate Kjolur highland plateau, accessible only via the famous Kjolvegur road that winds between the Langjokull and Hofsjokull glaciers through the uninhabited volcanic interior of the island, offering one of Europe's most atmospheric wild bathing experiences. The site combines dramatic sulfurous hot springs and active fumaroles with a small geothermally heated bathing pool maintained by the warden of the highland refuge hut, set against a landscape of moss, lava, and ice that feels genuinely untouched.
