Set beside the famed Etruscan-Roman archaeological park of Vulci, in the municipality of Canino (province of Viterbo), Terme di Vulci occupies a site already used in Etruscan times and later developed by the Romans, who built the Vasche delle Cento Camere — a bath complex with calidarium, tepidarium and frigidarium arranged around a figure-eight-shaped pool. Centuries later, Lucien Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon, had the Casale del Bagno built here, a rectangular basin fed directly by the natural spring.

Today, four cascading pools welcome visitors, with the water cooling gradually from one basin to the next. The waters — bicarbonate, sulphate, calcareous, magnesium and ferruginous, naturally carbonated — reflect a complex mineral profile shaped by more than two thousand years of continuous use.

Insider tip — Terme di Vulci emerge along the Fiora River gorge in northern Lazio's Maremma, within sight of the Etruscan necropolis that made Vulci one of the ancient world's great cities. The sulfurous waters at 35°C seep from tuff and volcanic rock, forming natural pools shaded by Mediterranean scrub and ancient oaks. The archaeological park nearby contains tombs, a Roman bridge, and a medieval fortress — making this a rare combination of thermal bathing and deep history. The pools are largely undeveloped, preserving their wild character.
