Nestled between Madaba and the Dead Sea, more than 260 meters below sea level, the Ma'in springs bring together some sixty hot-water sources that cascade down a steep ravine. Rainwater falling on the Madaba highlands seeps deep underground, is warmed by geothermal fissures, and rises back up carrying sodium, calcium, chlorides and sulfur compounds — a mineral composition well documented in regional studies.
The site has drawn visitors since Roman times, and tradition holds that Herod himself favored these baths during his reign over Judea. Today, the hot waterfalls of Ma'in, framed by the arid cliffs typical of the Jordan Valley, provide a spectacular natural setting just a short distance from the shores of the Dead Sea.
