Kamado Onsen

Kamado Onsen is a hot spring facility in Date city in Fukushima Prefecture in the Tōhoku region, named in part for the historic Date clan — the most powerful feudal lords of northern Japan, led by the legendary one-eyed daimyo Date Masamune (1567–1636), whose military genius, cultural patronage, and diplomatic vision made him one of the most fascinating figures of Japan's Sengoku period. The siliceous thermal waters of the Date onsen emerge from the volcanic geology of the Abukuma Plateau and the Ou Mountains, providing restorative bathing in a city whose samurai heritage is commemorated in numerous festivals and cultural sites celebrating the memory of the Date lords who shaped the identity of the entire Tōhoku region. Fukushima Prefecture's revival of its thermal and agricultural heritage following the 2011 nuclear disaster has been a significant part of the region's ongoing recovery narrative, with the prefecture's onsen towns playing a vital role in restoring pride and tourism to an unfairly stigmatized region of extraordinary natural and cultural richness.
