Nyuzen Onsen

Nyuzen Onsen serves a coastal agricultural community on the eastern edge of Toyama Bay where the Hayatsuki River delta has created some of Toyama Prefecture's most productive fishing grounds, the rich cold waters of the bay producing the exceptional hairtail, yellowtail, and squid that make Toyama's seafood among the most prized in Japan for its quality and variety. The town's position between the Kurobe River delta to the west — whose outwash plain contains some of Japan's most mineral-rich agricultural soils — and the Niigata coast to the east places it in a landscape of agricultural abundance backed by the Northern Alps whose snowfields release meltwater through the summer months to maintain the rivers that give Toyama's landscape its characteristic lushness. The onsen's siliceous geothermal mineral waters, drawing from the coastal geological resources of Toyama's eastern shore, provide restorative bathing in a fishing and farming community where the Japan Sea's maritime richness and the alpine watershed above combine to create a landscape of exceptional natural productivity.
