Sekikawa Onsen

Sekikawa Onsen lies in a mountain village in the Miomote River valley of northern Niigata, where the Sekikawa area preserves the character of a traditional Japanese mountain community surrounded by beech forests and the rugged terrain of the Asahi mountain range, connected to the coastal communities of the Niigata plain by a river valley that has served as a trade and communication route since ancient times. The Miomote River valley's character is shaped by the exceptional snowfall of the Niigata mountains, which accumulates to depths that challenge habitation yet simultaneously creates the conditions of pure snowmelt water and temperature differential growing seasons that make the surrounding area's rice and mountain vegetables of exceptional quality.
