Hirosaki Onsen Sakuraso is part of the Hirosaki hot spring community in Aomori Prefecture, serving the city most celebrated in all of Japan for its magnificent cherry blossom festival centered on Hirosaki Castle, where over 2,600 cherry trees including ancient weeping varieties transform the castle grounds into an explosion of pink blossoms each late April that is consistently ranked among Japan's most spectacular hanami sites, drawing half a million visitors across the festival weeks. The city is also the birthplace and living home of Tsugaru shamisen, the powerful, percussive three-stringed lute style played with dramatic force and emotional intensity that emerged from blind itinerant musicians of the Tsugaru region and has spread worldwide as one of Japan's most recognized folk music traditions.
