In Nishimeya, a wooded municipality of Aomori, Seseragi Onsen draws iron-rich water at 41°C (pH 6.3). An indoor bath, an outdoor rotenburo and a sauna round out the bathhouse.
Insider tip — Seseragi Onsen takes its name from the murmur of mountain streams in the forested hills of Nishimeya village, where iron-rich groundwater is collected and heated to a soothing temperature for year-round bathing. The mineral water carries visible amber coloration and a pleasantly earthy scent characteristic of deep Aomori springs. The surrounding beech forests of the Shirakami Sanchi UNESCO biosphere add a remarkable natural backdrop visible from the outdoor area. Visit in autumn when the foliage transforms the hillsides into a canvas of red and gold.
