Higashiomi Onsen Shiga

Higashiomi, a large administrative city in eastern Shiga Prefecture formed from the merger of several communities between Lake Biwa and the Suzuka Mountains, is the historic heartland of the Omi Shonin merchants whose commercial acumen and trading house networks spread across Edo-period Japan, making them among the most influential business communities in premodern Japanese history.
