Tsurunoyu Onsen in the Nyuto Onsen valley of Semboku city, Akita Prefecture, is one of Japan's most celebrated and photogenic historic onsen, a collection of thatched-roof ryokan set around a milky white rotenburo that steams amid deep winter snow to create one of the country's most iconic thermal bathing images.
