Lake Magadi Hot Springs are geothermal springs along the shoreline of Lake Magadi in the southern Kenya Rift Valley, where superheated alkaline brine emerges beneath one of the world's most productive trona (sodium carbonate) soda lakes, creating a flamingo-fringed landscape of extraordinary geological and ecological singularity. The springs feed the hyper-alkaline lake — so caustic it bleaches feathers and crystallises on skin — yet supports vast populations of lesser flamingos and tilapia fish adapted to the extreme chemistry. The geothermal springs and their relationship to the lake's remarkable soda-mineralogy represent one of East Africa's most scientifically fascinating and visually spectacular natural thermal environments.
