Terme Kunje

Terme Kunje draws bicarbonated mineral springs near Pljevlja in the highlands of northern Montenegro, where the thermal waters emerge from the limestone of the Tara river watershed in a landscape of pine forests and mountain pastures at the threshold of one of Europe's most magnificent natural monuments. The Canyon of the Tara river, forty kilometres from Kunje, is the deepest river canyon in Europe at 1,300 metres and the longest in the Balkans, its black pine forests declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for the pristine quality of the river water and the extraordinary biodiversity of the canyon walls, and the Tara itself classified among the cleanest rivers in the world with Balkan trout representing a genetic stock of exceptional purity. The bicarbonated springs of Kunje, appreciated for their warming and relaxing qualities, provide a welcome resting point in a northern Montenegro landscape whose wilderness credentials are among the strongest remaining in southern Europe, making the spa a natural complement to the adventure tourism, rafting, and canyon hiking for which the Tara valley is increasingly celebrated.
