Terme Banja Istog

Banja Istog is a thermal spring village in the Istog municipality of western Kosovo, set in an agricultural valley of the Bistrica river at the edge of the Rugova mountains, where bicarbonate-rich spring waters rise from the limestone and granitic formations of the Prokletije range and have been used for therapeutic bathing by the local communities since the Ottoman period. Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008 and is among the youngest recognized nations on Earth, is investing in its natural thermal heritage as part of a broader post-conflict tourism development strategy, and Banja Istog represents one of the most promising underdeveloped thermal assets in the western Balkans. The Rugova gorge — 25 kilometres of spectacular limestone cliffs — the Prokletije wilderness of the Albanian Alps, and the charming Ottoman bazaar of nearby Peje make the Istog thermal region a richly layered destination in one of Europe's newest and least-known countries.
