Andranomafana is a natural hot spring in the Fianarantsoa region of the southern highlands of Madagascar, where sulphurous water surfaces from the ancient Precambrian basement of the Madagascar craton in a landscape of remarkable lemur-inhabited rainforest. The name Andranomafana literally means 'hot water' in Malagasy, and the springs are integrated into the local communities' traditional use of natural thermal water for bathing within a long thermal tradition. The surrounding Fianarantsoa highland landscape, with its remarkable biodiversity — Madagascar has one of the world's highest rates of endemic species — and the nearby Ranomafana National Park with its extraordinary diversity of lemurs, chameleons, and birds, provides a uniquely exceptional natural setting.
