Terme de Kežarevci

Terme de Kežarevci near Kocani in eastern North Macedonia draws on geothermal springs that emerge at up to 76°C — among the hottest in the Balkans — from the volcanic geology of the Kocani basin, a fertile agricultural plain surrounded by mountains and known for its rice and cotton production, unusual crops for this part of Europe. The chloride sulphate mineral waters are cooled to therapeutic temperatures and channelled into the spa's bathing facilities, with the waters' high temperature indicating a deep geothermal source in the active fault system of the Vardar zone. The Kocani region's combination of rice paddies, tobacco fields and Bulgarian Orthodox monasteries creates a distinctively Macedonian rural landscape of great character. The proximity of the Osogovo mountain range, with its medieval monasteries and hiking trails, and the Berovo Lake resort in the Maleševo mountains, gives the area additional natural and cultural appeal.
