Los Azufres Spa Natural is a natural geothermal spa in the Los Azufres geothermal field in Michoacán state, western Mexico, one of Mexico's most important geothermal energy production zones where dozens of productive geothermal wells have been drilled alongside the naturally occurring sulfurous hot springs that have given the area its name. The spa uses the naturally occurring sulfurous geothermal waters in outdoor bathing facilities set within the pine forest of the Michoacán highlands at approximately 2,800 metres altitude, offering visitors both the genuine geothermal sulfur water within a long thermal tradition and the cool, clean atmosphere of sub-alpine mountain environment. Los Azufres' combination of active geothermal energy production, natural thermal springs, fumaroles, boiling mud pools, and alpine scenery makes it one of the most genuinely dynamic geothermal landscapes accessible to tourists in all of Mexico.

Insider tip — Los Azufres sits atop one of Mexico's most active geothermal fields in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, where fumaroles and bubbling mud pools surround the bathing area. The strongly sulfurous waters emerge at scalding temperatures and are diluted before entry. Visit on a clear morning when the volcanic steam hangs low over the pine forests. Avoid peak weekends — midweek crowds are far lighter.
