The Sabah tea plantation is located in the village of Nalapak in the Ranau region, about 120 kilometres from the city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The tea plantation lies on a road at the junction between Telupid and Ranau, after the crossroads leading to the Poring Hot Spring. The tea plantation stands at an altitude of 2,272 feet above sea level with an area of 6,200 acres. The plantation area is surrounded by primeval forests that have existed for 130 million years. Moreover, the tea plantation is set against the backdrop of Mount Kinabalu and is the only organic tea plantation in Malaysia, considered one of the best in the world.
Insider tip — Situated at the foot of Mount Kinabalu in Malaysian Borneo, Ranau Hot Spring sits within the dramatic geothermal zone of Southeast Asia's highest peak. The water emerges at a scalding 50 degrees Celsius with a pronounced sulfurous character, requiring cooling channels before soaking is comfortable. The nearby Kinabalu Park UNESCO World Heritage landscape makes this an ideal post-trek recovery stop after the summit trail.
