Warmbad Hot Springs

Warmbad Hot Springs is the oldest known thermal spring in Namibia, located in the Warmbad area of the southern Karas Region near the Orange River and the South African border, where oligomineral-sulfurous hot springs emerging at approximately 60°C have been used for bathing and restorative soaking since at least the 18th century by the Nama people who called this site !Gams-i-Naos, and subsequently by German colonial administrators who established a formal spa resort here in 1905. The springs have been part of a continuous therapeutic bathing tradition for over a century, making Warmbad one of southern Africa's oldest continuously operating spa destinations. The surrounding landscape of quiver trees (kokerboom), red Nama Karoo succulent vegetation, and the ancient granites of the Namaqualand plateau creates a strikingly beautiful desert setting for what is Namibia's most historically significant natural thermal site.
