Baños Termales de Calientes

Baños Termales de Calientes is a thermal spring site in Candarave district of Tacna Region in southern Peru, situated in the high volcanic landscape of the Candarave province at altitudes typical of the high puna near the borders of Bolivia and Chile, where geothermal waters emerge from the same volcanic and hydrothermal systems associated with the active Ticsani and Yucamane volcanoes of the Western Andean Cordillera in this southern extremity of Peru's volcanic arc. The Candarave area's thermal springs are associated with the geologically active terrain of southern Peru's volcanic zone, where the subduction of the Nazca Plate generates intense geothermal heat flow and produces the volcanic and hydrothermal activity responsible for the region's abundant hot springs, geysers, and fumaroles. The 'calientes' — hot waters — emerge in the stark beauty of the southern Andean puna, offering thermal bathing in one of Peru's most remote and geologically dynamic high-altitude landscapes where volcanic peaks, totora reed lakes, and Andean wildlife including vicuñas and flamingos create an extraordinary natural environment.
